Snowmakers for the Win

We say it often: thank a snowmaker. Hug a snowmaker. Heck, get down on your knees and kiss the powder-covered ground that a snowmaker walks on. Because on years like this, when Ma Nature’s feeling stingy and the mercury doesn’t know if it’s up or down, snowmakers are the only thing between us and a real bummer of a season. Well guys, for once, we have a chance to really thank the crew that has kept this mountain consistently in the top spot with the most open terrain in the East this season. We can finally show our appreciation to the dudes and ladies who were responsible for the silky smooth, super fun powder runs we were able to enjoy, day after day.

Hosted by Ski Area Management Magazine (SAM) and sponsored by HKD Snowmakers—a North American company that manufactures and supplies most of Sunday River’s energy-efficient snowmaking equipment—I AM a Snowmaker is a nation-wide competition that recognizes stand-outs in the snowmaking field. This year, in addition to awarding an individual snowmaker, the I AM a Snowmaker award will also be given to a resort’s entire team of snowmakers. The focus will be on teamwork. The competition is tough. Sunday River’s snowmaking crew is going for the win.

The competition includes Stowe Mountain and Okemo Mountain in Vermont, Cataloochee Ski Area in North Carolina, Whistler Blackomb in British Colombia, and Copper Mountain in Colorado… but don’t worry. They ain’t got nothin’ on us. Each of the six nominated crews has been asked to make video that highlights why their crew is second only to Mother Nature; votes from the mountain resort community can be cast from March 15-March 31 and the winners of the 2016 I AM a Snowmaker award will be announced in early April. This is where you guys come in: if enough of you vote, our crew will win. We all know firsthand how much they deserve it. Each person is able to vote 10 times per day, so vote early and often!

Let’s be real, here: this season was a tough one. Between a late onset of cold weather, wildly fluctuating temps, and some not-so-frozen precipitation, we could’ve had a really depressing winter. Instead, we shredded the gnar harder than anyone else in the East… so go to saminfo.com and cast your vote now. Spread the word. Thank our snowmakers!
