Pack Up the Pets

Adventures are always more fun with your furry friend, but did you know that you can explore the mountains of Western Maine with his tail wagging by your side? Here’s your guide to a fun-filled trip with you and your canine companion:

Hiking
Sunday River offers extensive hiking trails on all eight peaks, ranging from easy trails like the Maine Road and the South Ridge Loop to more difficult treks like the Ravine Trail. Just grab your leash, poop bags, and a 2016 Summer Guide to show you the way. There are also some great hikes in both Grafton and Evans Notch, which are a short drive from the resort.

Scenic Chondola Rides
Did you know you can take your pet airborne? Riding in an enclosed gondola cabin on the scenic Chondola lift takes you and your furry friend safely to 2,100 feet above sea level. From there, you can take in the scenery, stop for a picnic on the Quantum Leap overlook, or head out for a hike.

Swimming Holes
What pup doesn’t love to make a splash? Swimming holes are a quintessential part of summer in Maine and the Sunday River region offers plenty. Visit Frenchman’s Hole, Honey Hole, Letter S, and Step Falls to keep you and your pet cool on a warm day.

Paddling
If you’ve got a calm companion, taking them for a paddle is a great way to see the region. Both Sport Thoma and Bethel Outdoor Adventure offer rentals for kayaks and canoes to take on the Androscoggin River, and the Local Hub rents more boats to take on the ponds of Greenwood. Don’t forget your life jackets!

If you happen to be staying with us this summer, contact Barker Brook Kennels or Tucker’s Dog House for excellent accommodations for your best friend.
