Top 5 Moments of 2017

In the big wide world, 2017 has been a whirlwind year of highs and lows. Here at Sunday River, it has been full of more highs than we can count. Throughout the year we have seen epic snowfall, played host to some major events, added new terrain and lifts, stepped up the apres fun and much more.

If we tried to name all the big moments of 2017, it would take you the remainder of 2018 to read this. Instead, we picked 5 moments that stand out the most.

1.) Our Snowiest February on Record

There are certain times of year that skiers and riders daydream of year-round. Anyone who hit the slopes last February will tell you those daydreams are full of memories of last winter. February of 2017 earned itself the title of snowiest February in Sunday River recorded history with a whopping 71 inches of snow. That is nearly 40% of our season’s snowfall in one month (and the 2016-17 was one SNOWY season).

Could February 2018 surpass 2017’s totals? Let’s hope so!

2.) Opening of Spruce Peak Triple 2.0

Spruce Peak is considered by many to be the crown peak of Sunday River. To “spruce” our crown peak up a bit, we added a shiny new jewel to top it off… The Spruce Peak Triple 2.0. Our new spiffy 2.1 million dollar, three-passenger Dopplemeyer lift opened to the public on a beautiful morning December 2nd, 2017.

Opening day for the SPT 2.0 was a big hit — made even better by an awesome turnout and spectacular early season conditions. Our first skiers and riders to hit the new triple snagged themselves a pair of stylish “Risky Business” inspired sunglasses to sport on their first ascents of the new lift.

3.) Maine Brew Fest

For all hop-loving, beer aficionados in the great state of Maine, Sunday River played the role of “beer Mecca” this past September 2017. Some of Maine’s finest craft brewers descended upon the slopes to serve up their best libations to the adoring crowds.

Hundreds of people got their fill of some of Maine’s best craft beers while enjoying the gorgeous Autumn scenery of the mountain slopeside at South Ridge. Mast Landing took home the grand prize of crowd favorite and are taking over taps across the resort this season! If you missed the September session of Brew Fest, have no fear, Maine Brew Fest returns to Sunday River this Spring.

4.) Apres Upgrades

We pride ourselves on having some of the finest spots to grab a beverage, put your feet up and enjoy some grub after a long day on the slopes here at Sunday River. This year, we are stepping up our game with some upgrades to the food and beverage scene.

The Mountain Room is now the place to be to soak up some rays while enjoying a nice refreshing beverage with its new deck overlooking North Peak! Not only does the Mountain Room now have one of the best views on the mountain, but the menu of food and drinks have seen some changes as well. Swing up to the North Peak Lodge to check it out.

A locals’ favorite digs, White Cap Lodge, is also rocking some new goods. The White Cap Lodge is now home to Coffee Hound’s second and newest location. Make sure to check out Coffee Hound to fuel up for a day on the slopes and enjoy a crepe.

5.) 50K Followers on Instagram

Last but most certainly not least, our very own Instagram page reached 50 thousand followers in 2017. We love highlighting how beautiful this resort is and how epic the conditions can be throughout the season. It is our loyal followers that make it all worth it.
