What’s Pouring? Maine Beer Company

Freeport based Maine Beer Co. was an idea first conceived on May 2, 2006 while brewer and co-owner David Kleban was in Everglades National Park. After some “really awful beer” and a lot of fun between David and his brother (and co-owner) Daniel, the American pale ale Peeper was born. With the motto “Do what’s right,” the Maine Beer Company crew donates 1 percent of all sales to environmental nonprofits.

If you like beer, well lucky for you, we do too. On January 27, Sunday River will be hosting a Peak Dinner curated by Maine Beer Company and Chef Harding Lee Smith. Tickets are $95 per person and still on sale if you’re looking for a night filled with good beer and great food.

Peeper Pale Ale

5.5% ABV, 4.11/5 on BA

This was Maine Beer Co.’s first official brew. After a few years of home brewing in their garage, David and Daniel Kleban decided to open a brewery so that we could share our beer. In 2009 they started with a one barrel system and worked on a single recipe, over and over, until Peeper was born. The flavor is light citrus-y with notes of raspberries, blackberries and subtle pine.

“This beer makes my list of ten beers I could be stuck drinking for the rest of my life, if I could only have one. Excellent brew!”- scootny
